Sydney Donahue
Sport Shack Alumnus (2004), Sydney Donahue, returns to the club to coach the 14-3’s team. Sydney brings a wealth of knowledge to the program, as she has played at the highest level of high school and college volleyball.
In her collegiate years, Sydney played as a Libero for Arizona State University. As a Freshman, Sydney was named first-team All-Pac-10 Freshman, broke the ASU freshman single-season digs record with 375, recorded 10 or more digs in 19 matches including five 20+ dig performances, and set the ASU freshman record with 30 digs against Oregon State. In her Sophomore year, Sydney set a new school record with 628 digs, recorded 30+ digs in a match seven times, and had a season high of 43 digs at Notre Dame. In her Junior year, Sydney had one of the best seasons in ASU history as she broke the ASU and Pac-10 record of 742 digs in a single-season, and set an NCAA record of 50 digs against LMU on August 26, 2006. In her Senior year, Sydney ended her collegiate career as the all time dig leader in the Pac-10.
In her Prep years, Sydney played at Mira Costa High School and Sports Shack Volleyball Club. At Mira Costa, Sydney played as an Outside Hitter and Libero. She led her team to two CIF Championships and three Bay league titles. Sydney earned honors of team captain her senior year, All-Bay League selection as a sophomore, all-tournament team at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, Bay League Player of the Year, CIF Player of the Year, Daily Breeze Player of the Year, and all second-team All-State by CalHiSports.com. At Sports Shack, Sydney helped the 16-1’s team to a Second placed finish at the Volleyball Festival in 2002, and the 18-1’s to a fourth place finish in 2004. On the beach, Sydney placed 3rd at the 2004 AAU Beach Volleyball National Championships (U-19 Girls) in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
