Anthony Mezzavilla
Anthony Mezzavilla will be entering his 4th year with the Sports Shack. Before coming to the Shack, Anthony coached at Pinnacle Volleyball Club and Northgate High School and Foothill Middle School. At Pinnacle Volleyball Club, Anthony coached the 16-1’s in their inaugural year (2007), and he led the squad to top 10 finishes in the NCVA tournaments. At the end of the 2006-2007 club season, the 16-1’s finished the season ranked 26th in the NCVA.
At Northgate High School, Anthony coached freshman and JV Girls, as well as JV Boys. Highlights of the tenure at his alma mater was a Freshman Girls team that posted a 15-1 league record to capture a League title and taking first place at the Northgate Freshman Tournament (2005). As well as, coaching the JV girls to fourth and first place finishes at tournaments (2004), and coached the JV Girls to only 4 league losses (2004).
While attending UCLA (2006-2009), Anthony was the Undergraduate Assistant Coach for the Women's volleyball team. While at UCLA, the women's team made appearances in the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four. Under the tutelage of coach Andy Banachowski, who coached the Bruins for 43 years, Anthony grew an immeasurable amount as a coach in just three seasons. He graduated cum laude with a major in history and minor in education.
While at the Shack, Anthony coached 14-2's in his first year, and 16-2's for the past two. His most recent 16-2's team finished 37th in Regionals, this was the highest finish for a "2's" team in recent Shack history. This quality finish and his dedication to the team earned Anthony the Sports Shack "Coach of the Year" award in 2010.
Currently, Anthony is a sixth grade teacher at Village School in the Pacific Palisades and coaches varsity volleyball at Archer School. In his first season with the Panthers he helped lead the team to the 2nd round of CIF Southern Section. Anthony is looking forward to coaching the 15-1's in the 2010-2011 club season.
