17-1's Take Tenth Place at the Junior Olympics

The 2008 club season saw Shack 17-1's make it's first trip to JO's and they did not disappoint. We made it a priority to make JO's, having placed 4th, 5th, and 2nd in the previous years at the Festival. We had to step it up to qualify at the Far Westerns qualifier which is one of the hardest qualifiers in the country. We beat the number 1 team in the country, Austin Jrs on our way to qualifying for JO's in Dallas. The girls really responded well to the challenges that we had to face in playing the top teams in the nation. Our tournament pool was filled with JO veteran teams. The 17-1's were not expected to do well and our seeding showed it. We came to the tournament seeded 26th out of 28 teams. The girls pulled together and showed what it means to be a "TEAM". The matches were 3 out of 5 format which was demanding for the girls because SCVA was a 2 out of 3 format. The Shack girls showed physical and mental toughness to scratch out win after win against previously higher ranked teams. I have to say this was one the most memorable tournaments I have coached. The Shack on the final day beat Vision 17-1's (8th in the nation) in 5 long games to finish with a very impressive 10th place. The hard work that the Sports Shack team showed did not go unnoticed. We were ranked 18th in the Nation in the final polls. Go SHACK!
